I have recently returned from an exciting – yet grueling – trip to Angola, were I delivered a load of Senepol heifers and bulls. These magnificent animals had quite a journey as they traveled almost 6 days to reach their final destination. They all arrived safely and are adapting well to their new environment.
Africa – as always – has its challenges… and we are constantly learning lessons to fine tune our exports to ensure smooth and safe delivery of the livestock. Lengthy border crossings and challenging road infrastructure can add a tremendous amount of unexpected hours onto a trip – so it is always good to be well organised and travel alongside the cattle, to be on-hand to sort out issues as and when they arise.
I am super excited about this breed. Senepol have ideal attributes for African environments such as:
- Heat tolerance
- Insect resistance
- Docile nature
- Good meat and high milk production
- Short hair
- Polled (No horns)
Angola is a beautiful country with a rapidly emerging agricultural sector and I look forward to the opportunities to supply quality cattle and livestock in the future.
