I just wanted to share a bit about a very special trip I recently made to Zimbabwe. It involved a friend of many years, Willie Du Plessis, who milks a huge herd of Jerseys in the Tsitsikamma. It was a great honour and privilege that he entrusted me to source Jersey heifers for him and his friends at Ebenezer. We sourced a good group of registered Jersey heifers in George. The trip went very smoothly even though we experienced another very slow border crossing at Beit Bridge on the Zimbabwe side (6 hrs). The total distance covered was roughly 1700km and the heifers travelled very well. As usual, we allowed enough space on the truck so that the heifers could lie down, making the trip a lot easier on them. We blocked the heifers with an anti-biotic to protect them from any tick born diseases that they might encounter and thus reduce the risk of losses and abortions. The heifers have settled down well in their new environment and I wish Ebenezer farm the best of luck with them. May they produce a lot of milk and heifer calves in the future.
