At the beginning of this year, we had the opportunity to send the other half of an order for in calf Guernsey heifers to Kenya. This order was not without its challenges. Exporting was delayed due an outbreak of FMD which unfortunately meant that by the time the borders opened some of the heifers were too close to calving to send to Kenya and had to remain in South Africa.
The remainder of the Guernseys that stayed behind after the first half went off were very comfortable on our quarantine property and remained there until March 2023. After re-testing the animals and gaining the appropriate approval from our State Veterinarian we were finally able to send them on their merry way. One trip to the airport and short flight later, our Guernseys arrived in Kenya, looking very content amidst the bushveld.
